Oil & Gas UK Issue Forums

 

Members of Oil & Gas UK forums are senior managers and industry experts nominated by the member company’s council representative. You will be invited to nominate representatives to the forums on confirmation that your membership application has been accepted. No forum will share or engage in any discussion regarding competitive commercial information.

 


 

Communications Policy Advisory

The communications policy advisory forum is attended by media relations and government affairs practitioners from the member companies. It acts as a two-way conduit for information, helping to shape as well as disseminate Oil & Gas UK external messaging. The forum also provides a vehicle for developing pan-industry communications strategies on shared issues.

Economic and Fiscal

The economic and fiscal forum is the focal point for communication between member companies and Oil & Gas UK on all economic and fiscal issues affecting the UK upstream oil and gas industry. It identifies industry, governmental, legislative and regulatory developments (domestic and EU) which may impact the UKCS business environment and provides guidance, information and analytical capacity to the economics directorate in developing policy options and proposals.

Environment

The environment forum provides the focal point for communication between Oil & Gas UK and member companies on all environmental issues affecting the UK upstream oil and gas industry, including atmospheric and marine emissions, waste, and data capture and reporting. It allows industry specialists to exchange views and information as well as to feed their specialist knowledge and operational experience into the development of Oil & Gas UK policy.

Exploration

The exploration forum acts as the focal point for communication between the member companies and Oil & Gas UK on all exploration issues related to the UK continental shelf offshore oil and gas industry. It provides a platform for industry experts to contribute to the formulation of Oil & Gas UK policies on exploration-related issues, including access to licences and data, technology development and the streamlining of legal and commercial arrangements.

Gas

The gas forum provides the focal point for communication between member companies and Oil & Gas UK concerning gas issues affecting the UK upstream oil and gas industry. It identifies industry, governmental, legislative and regulatory developments (domestic and EU) which may influence the gas market and members’ collective interests, including NTS entry capacity, gas storage, EU market liberalisation, the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme, and carbon capture and storage.

Health and Safety

The health and safety forum is the focal point for communication between Oil & Gas UK and member companies on all health and safety issues affecting the UK upstream oil and gas industry. It is the vehicle for the development of pan-industry policies targeting improvements in health and safety performance, tackling such issues as asset integrity, major hazards, aviation and security. It also provides links into the Step Change in Safety programme.

Production

The production forum provides the focal point for communication between the member companies and Oil & Gas UK on all production-based operational aspects of the UK upstream sector. It allows members to exchange views and information as well as to contribute specialist knowledge and experience into the development of Oil & Gas UK strategy on production issues, such as decommissioning, asset integrity, logistics, fisheries interactions, produced water and stewardship.

Supply Chain

The supply chain directorate is the focal point for all matters related to the upstream oil and gas supply chain and its strategic role in delivering a sustainable and world class capability for the UKCS. A focus on continuing business improvement and meeting the supply chain's ongoing challenges is managed through the Supply Chain Forum. Existing activities include improving the use of FPAL (First Point Assessment Ltd) and standard contracts, promoting compliance with the Supply Chain Code of Practice and demonstrating the wider value delivered through a variety of ongoing forum projects.

Well Services Contractors

The well services contractors’ forum is the main point of contact between member companies in the well services sector and Oil & Gas UK on matters specifically relating to this segment of the industry.

Well Life Cycle Practices

The WLCPF was set up in December 2010 to identify and address any cross-industry issues relating to the well life cycle, and to implement the recommendations that were published by OSPRAG’s Technical Review Group in October 2010.

The forum currently has six workgroups:

  • BOP issues
  • Well life cycle integrity guidelines
  • Relief well planning requirements
  • Competency, behaviours and human factors
  • Well examination
  • Verification

Membership of the WLCPF is open to Oil & Gas UK members responsible for the design, construction, operation, and intervention of wells.
