Breadth of the Supply Chain across the UK
It is a common perception that the oil and gas industry is Scottish based, principally around the Aberdeen area. While there is indeed a concentration of activity in this area, the benefits of the industry are spread widely, with involvement of personnel and businesses stretching across the entire country. Figure 39 highlights an analysis of the registered addresses of companies that are recorded on the database of FPAL.
Figure 40 shows a specific example of how a typical project contracted by an operator in Aberdeen to a fabrication company in Newcastle involves a supply chain that extends from north to south and east to west. The project used in this example is that of OGN’s contract to fabricate a new platform for Apache’s Forties Field.
