Our Commitment to Research and Development Earlier in this report, we mentioned the environmental commitments that our industry has endorsed. The latest of these, relating to environmental research and development, is being developed at the moment. We believe that our environmental stewardship rests on a clear understanding of the environment and the effects that our activities may have on it. Currently, UKOOA members carry out their own environmental research and development programmes, and the new initiative is concerned with collecting and collating the details of each company's programmes. When this exercise is completed we will be in a position to establish pan-industry and co-operative programmes that will avoid duplication and to maximise the benefits of the R&D investments that our members make.
