Conclusion Our modern society is highly dependent on oil and natural gas, and will remain so for decades to come. The natural resources recovered from the UK Continental Shelf have helped shape our living standards and made a huge contribution to our economy. These benefits inevitably have some environmental impact. The UK's oil and gas industry recognises its responsibility to minimise this impact through continuously improving environmental performance and is working hard with government and all its stakeholders to ensure that the environmental footprint we leave is as light as possible.
