Case Study 1: Strong Foundations on the UKCS Enabling Companies to Export Their Experties
PSN’s Worldwide Operations
PSN (Production Services Network) is a UK oil and gas
supply chain success story. Built on 30 years of North
Sea experience, PSN now employs over 8,500 people
worldwide, supporting more than 3,500 UK jobs. It is an
industry leader in developing local talent to ensure that
the entire network is available to customers wherever
they need it. Despite rapid global growth, PSN remains
firmly anchored in the UK.
PSN was formed in May 2006 when CEO Bob Keiller and his management
team completed an award-winning $280 million management-buyout
from KBR Halliburton. It is now one of the top ten largest private
Scottish companies, with revenues of more than $1.2 billion, an order
book worth more than $2 billion, and work secured to 2013. Since the
management buy-out, PSN has enjoyed a 39% growth in revenue.
International revenue now accounts for 46% of total PSN income,
compared to 30% in 2002 – a more than 200% increase over that
period.
To attract new personnel, PSN has devised and funded schemes
such as its innovative Re-engineer Career Conversion Programme, in
conjunction with the MoD, to retrain ex-armed forces personnel to join
the oil and gas industry which has now been adopted by many other
companies.
PSN has entered into an alliance with Aberdeen Skills and Enterprise
Training (ASET) to develop new talent and tackle new markets,
exporting UK expertise. ASET will equally access new global markets
alongside PSN, while profits will be covenanted to Aberdeen College.
Bespoke technical training solutions will be delivered to internationally
recognised, industry-endorsed, quality standards.
PSN enhances the performance and extends the life of energy assets
around the world, from engineering and construction, to operations,
maintenance and decommissioning.
PSN’s customers range from international oil companies like Shell, BP,
ConocoPhillips, Chevron, Occidental, PetroCanada and ExxonMobil,
to independent operating companies like Apache, Nexen, CNR and
Talisman, to national oil companies like Sonatrach, Korean National Oil
Company and Dubai Petroleum.
