Well Life Cycle Practices

The Well Life Cycle Practices Forum (WLCPF) was set up by Oil & Gas UK in December 2010 to provide a forum at which well-operators can discuss well-related pan-industry issues, help companies implement the OSPRAG Technical Review Group recommendations and act as the interface of choice for DECC and HSE on well-related matters.

Membership and Liaison

As of mid 2012, the WLCPF had over 45 Oil & Gas UK member companies including operators and well management companies. The WLCPF and its workgroups interact with a broad range of industry groups and communities including:

  • UK Regulators
  • Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC)
  • Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
  • Other regulators and standard setting organisations (e.g. ISO and API)
  • Drilling contractors (via the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) North Sea Chapter)
  • Well services contractors (via the Oil & Gas UK Well Services Contractors Forum)
  • Other national oil industry associations (e.g. Norwegian Oil and Gas, and International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP)) and the UK onshore operators group (UKOOG)
  • Communities who do not have a representative body (e.g. well-examiners, wellhead equipment manufacturers, and ROV users)



The WLCPF has eight workgroups, as shown below.





Most of the workgroups have produced or been involved in producing guidelines. You can purchase the guidelines as they become available using the links below. Oil & Gas UK forum members are entitled to download copies free of charge from the members' extranet.

• Guidelines for well-operators on well examination and Guidelines for well-operators on competency of well examiners – Issue 1 (November 2011)

Verification workgroup
• The workgroup provided well-related expertise to the Step Change in Safety Asset Integrity workgroup who have produced a suite of guidelines on assurance and verification
