Offshore Meteorological Observation and Reporting
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) recommended improvements in weather reporting following the Morecambe Bay helicopter accident in December 2006.
As a result, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has revised its regulations to include the requirement for aeronautical meteorological stations on offshore installations. Please find here additional CAA Guidance relating to the provision of Meteorological Information from Offshore Installations.
The CAA regulations now also include the formal training of personnel making meteorological observations. Details of training options offered by two providers are below:
