Industry Interest in Oil & Gas UK Awards Results in Deadline Extension

Companies wishing to compete for the prestigious Oil & Gas UK Awards 2010, sponsored by Shell U.K. Limited, have until 5pm on Wednesday August 11 to send in their nominations. Oil & Gas UK has now extended the deadline due to the level of interest in the event, which will be attended by Guest of Honour, Charles Hendry MP, Energy Minister at the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

The annual Oil & Gas UK Awards ceremony attracts around five hundred people and celebrates the individuals and businesses currently making an exceptional contribution to the industry. Entering is easy and, for the first time, applicants may submit their entries online.

Nominations are open for:

Individual Awards

  • The Oil & Gas UK Award for Overall Excellence, sponsored by Marathon Oil U.K. Ltd, which recognises outstanding achievement by young people working in the UK offshore oil and gas industry today;
  • The Oil & Gas UK Award for Young Technician of the Year, sponsored by OPITO – The Oil & Gas Academy, which recognises the vital contribution of our industry’s technicians;
  • The Oil & Gas UK Award for Mentoring, sponsored by Chevron Upstream Europe, which recognises the important role mentors play in passing on their knowledge and expertise to the next generation of oil and gas workers.

Corporate Awards

  • The Oil & Gas UK Award for People Development, sponsored by the University of Aberdeen, which recognises the outstanding commitment made by an organisation in developing every company’s most important asset – its people;
  • The Oil & Gas UK Award for Business Efficiency, sponsored by Apache North Sea Limited, which recognises innovation in the delivery of improved operational performance.

Malcolm Webb, chief executive of Oil & Gas UK said: “We are delighted that Charles Hendry is attending the Oil & Gas UK Award ceremony, where we have the opportunity to recognise the wide range of achievements of the industry, both by individuals and companies. The UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) relies not only on the abilities, technical skills and ambitions of the people working in our industry but also on their constructive collaboration to bring about new ideas and innovative ways of working.

“Given the relatively high cost nature of our province, this year we have chosen to introduce the Business Efficiency Award. This is to recognise companies which have not only enhanced their competitive position by achieving measurable efficiency gains, streamlining effort and sustainable cost savings but have also demonstrated transferability of this learning into the wider industry.”

The winners will be announced at the Oil & Gas UK Awards dinner on 4 November 2010. All winners will receive a specially commissioned glass trophy. In addition, winners in the individual categories will be presented with a cheque for £500.
