Lord Marland, parliamentary under secretary of state at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, was guest of honour for this special celebration of exceptional talent drawn from across the industry.
The Oil & Gas UK Award for Overall Excellence was presented to Mark Arnold, captain of the Grampian Explorer platform supply vessel, who was nominated by Craig Group in recognition of his commitment to both his own professional development, the training of his shipping cadets and his contribution to the company’s safety and maintenance management programmes.
Mark said: “Winning this award has been a fantastic experience and the support I have had from my family, North Star Shipping, Craig Group and everyone onboard my vessel has been wonderful. I would like this award to act as an inspiration to other young people as it proves that a career at sea is both fulfilling and worthwhile.”
The Award for Young Technician of the Year was presented to Kevin Dunn, a process engineer at BP, in recognition of his outstanding ability to solve problems by applying his analytical skills. Gill Cowlam, acting engineering authority at BP, won the Award for Mentoring for her long term commitment to coaching chemical engineers at work and in her spare time.
In the corporate category, Wood Group Engineering (North Sea) scooped the Award for People Development for its training and competency programme which enables employees to transition more efficiently from one contract to another. Aker Solutions won the Award for Business Efficiency in recognition of its integrated project control system which helps to eliminate opportunities for human error and provides a transparent source of information for both Aker Solutions and its clients.
Malcolm Webb, Oil & Gas UK’s chief executive said: “Special occasions like the Oil & Gas UK Awards help us to remember that we are members of a diverse, dynamic and forwardthinking community. We face both economic and technical challenges in developing the maturing UK continental shelf so it is vital that we celebrate the abilities, technical skills and ambitions of people working in our industry. All of the finalists are wonderful examples of some of the truly exceptional people working in the industry today whose contributions will help us drive the industry forward to meet the challenges of the future.”
