Removal of Contractor Personnel Offshore

Overview

In 2009, Oil & Gas UK introduced new guidelines setting out the principles and process to be followed in the event of permanent removal of contractor personnel from an offshore installation, a process commonly referred to as 'not required back' or NRB. The new guidelines, endorsed by industry and the trade unions alike, were introduced in response to workforce concerns that the lack of a clear and transparent process could potentially prevent individuals from raising safety concerns.

As agreed when the guidelines were launched, a joint review of their effectiveness was conducted with the trade unions in March 2010. The review showed that the guidelines were working well overall and suggested some minor changes. The revised guidelines were endorsed by the trade unions and Board of Oil & Gas UK and have been publicised to the industry.
